God Has My Back

The other day, Tim shared something with me that touched my heart in a way I wasn't expecting. It wasn't a profound sermon, a life-changing revelation, or even a conversation that lasted very long. In fact, it was something incredibly simple. He told me that every morning when he wakes up, his cross necklace has somehow shifted during the night and ended up resting on his back. Most people would probably think nothing of it. They would assume it simply moved while he slept. But for Tim, it became something much more meaningful. Somewhere along the way, that little cross became a daily reminder that no matter what happens, God has his back.

As I sat with those words, I realized they carried far more weight than they might seem at first glance. They were not really about a necklace at all. They were about peace. They were about trust. They were about finding confidence in the middle of circumstances that often feel uncertain and beyond our control. Most importantly, they were about recognizing God's presence in the ordinary moments of life.

The longer I reflected on Tim's words, the more I realized how often we spend our days carrying burdens we were never meant to carry alone. We worry about what might happen tomorrow, replay yesterday's disappointments, and try to solve problems that have not even arrived yet. In the middle of all that mental and emotional weight, God continually invites us to release our grip and trust His. The challenge is not always learning how to move forward; sometimes it is learning how to rest in the knowledge that He is already there.

For Tim, that lesson did not come all at once. It was learned one day at a time, one prayer at a time, and one act of trust at a time. There were seasons when peace felt distant and uncertainty seemed to fill every corner of the future. There were days when fear asked hard questions and offered no easy answers. In difficult moments, peace often feels out of reach. It is hard to feel secure when seizures can happen without warning. It is hard to feel confident when the future looks different than the one you had planned. It is hard to rest when your mind is constantly trying to solve problems that have no immediate solutions. There were days when fear seemed louder than faith and uncertainty felt heavier than hope.

Yet somewhere along the journey, something began to change. Not because every question was answered. Not because every obstacle disappeared. Not because life suddenly became easy again. The change happened within Tim's heart. He stopped looking for peace in circumstances and began finding it in God's presence. He came to understand that peace is not the absence of hardship. Peace is knowing that even in hardship, you are not alone.

That is why the image of that cross resting on his back every morning has become so meaningful. For Tim, it serves as a reminder that God is standing behind him. Through every seizure, every setback, every difficult appointment, every moment of fear, and every uncertain tomorrow, God has remained faithful. There has never been a moment when God stepped away. There has never been a day when His presence was absent. Even when answers were delayed and prayers seemed to linger in the waiting, God was still there.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized how often God gives us reminders when we need them most. Sometimes they come through Scripture that speaks directly to our circumstances. Sometimes they come through a conversation with a friend. Sometimes they arrive through a song that reaches our hearts at exactly the right moment. And sometimes they come through something as simple as a cross necklace that has shifted during the night. God has a way of meeting us in ordinary moments and using them to remind us of extraordinary truths.

One of the greatest struggles we face as human beings is the temptation to believe we are carrying our burdens alone. Fear whispers that we are on our own. Anxiety tells us that everything depends on us. Worry convinces us that we need to have every answer before we can move forward. Yet God continually invites us to place those burdens in His hands. He reminds us that He goes before us, walks beside us, and remains behind us. He surrounds us with His presence in ways we often do not even recognize.

I think that is why Tim's words have stayed with me. In a world that constantly tells us to rely on our own strength, there is something beautiful about waking up each morning with a reminder that God's strength is enough. There is comfort in knowing that we do not have to see the entire path ahead because the One who does see it is already there. There is peace in understanding that no matter how difficult the journey becomes, God remains faithful.

The truth is that life will continue to bring challenges. There will still be days when fear tries to creep back in. There will still be seasons of waiting, questions that remain unanswered, and roads that feel longer than we would like. But there is also a deeper truth that carries us through those moments. God has never abandoned us. He has never left us to figure things out on our own. He has never stopped working, even when we could not see what He was doing.

So now, whenever Tim mentions waking up with his cross resting on his back, I smile. What some might dismiss as coincidence has become a powerful symbol of faith. It is a daily reminder that God's presence is constant, His promises are trustworthy, and His love never fails. It reminds us that no matter what we face today, tomorrow, or in the years ahead, we do not walk this journey alone.

Perhaps that is a reminder all of us need from time to time. When life feels overwhelming, when fear grows loud, and when the future feels uncertain, we can pause and remember this simple but powerful truth: God has our back. He has been there through every trial we have already survived, and He will be there for every challenge still to come. We may not always know what lies ahead, but we can rest in the certainty of knowing who walks with us. And sometimes, that certainty is enough to bring peace back into our hearts.
