He Was With Us in the Fire
There are moments in life when we look back and wonder how we made it through. The memories remain vivid—the fear, the uncertainty, the sleepless nights, and the questions that seemed to have no answers. Yet when we trace the path behind us, we begin to see something remarkable. We were never walking alone. Even in the moments that felt unbearable, God was present. Even when the flames surrounded us, we were not consumed. Even when the darkness seemed overwhelming, His hand never let go.
The Bible is filled with stories of people who found themselves in impossible situations. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood in the fire and discovered that God was standing there with them. Daniel was thrown into a den of lions and emerged unharmed because God had already gone before him. These stories are not simply accounts from long ago; they are reminders for every believer who finds themselves facing trials today. The same God who walked with them walks with us. The same God who protected them still covers His children with His presence and His peace.
When we are in the middle of a storm, it is easy to focus on the wind and the waves. Fear has a way of making the problem appear larger than the One who holds us. Yet faith invites us to remember who God is. He is the One who parts seas, calms storms, closes the mouths of lions, and brings light into the darkest places. He has never abandoned His people, and He has never failed to keep His promises. When we remember His faithfulness in the past, we find courage for the battles we face today.
Some of our journeys take us through deserts rather than fires. These are the seasons when prayers seem unanswered, when strength feels depleted, and when the road ahead appears endless. Yet even in the wilderness, God provides. Just as He led His people with a cloud by day and fire by night, He continues to guide us through seasons of uncertainty. We may not always understand where He is leading us, but we can trust that He is making a way where none seems possible. His provision often arrives in ways we never expected, and His timing is always perfect.
There are also valleys that feel impossibly deep. The valley of grief. The valley of illness. The valley of disappointment. The valley of waiting. These are the places where we may wonder if God sees us at all. Yet Scripture reminds us that even in the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear because He is with us. Not once has He forsaken us. Not once has He walked away. Not once has He left us to face our struggles alone. His presence remains steady when everything else feels uncertain.
Because of this, our response to hardship can be different. The world may expect fear, despair, and defeat, but faith calls us to worship. Worship is not the denial of pain; it is the declaration that God is greater than our pain. It is the choice to lift our eyes above the storm and fix them on the One who reigns over it. The greater the storm, the louder our song can become—not because the battle is easy, but because we know the outcome belongs to Him. We do not sing because we are winning in our own strength. We sing because victory has already been secured through the power of God.
Fear loses its grip when worship fills our hearts. Darkness begins to tremble when God's people remember who He is. Walls that once seemed impossible to break begin to shake under the power of His presence. The circumstances around us may not change overnight, but something changes within us. Hope rises. Courage grows. Peace settles over anxious hearts. We begin to understand that our confidence was never meant to be in our circumstances but in our Savior.
As I reflect on the difficult seasons of life, I am reminded again and again that God's faithfulness has carried us farther than our own strength ever could. He was with us in the fire. He was with us in the desert. He was with us in the valley. He was present in every tear, every prayer, every setback, and every small victory. Looking back, I can see His fingerprints on every chapter of the journey.
So why should we be afraid? The God who carried us yesterday is the same God who walks beside us today and will lead us into tomorrow. We know who He is. He is faithful. He is powerful. He is loving. He is present. And because we know who He is, we can face whatever comes next with confidence, knowing that no storm is greater than our God and no darkness can overcome His light.
