One More Song

There comes a point in life when we begin to understand that our days are not measured merely by years, accomplishments, or possessions. Instead, they are measured by the impact we leave behind. The words we speak. The kindness we show. The hope we offer. The lives we touch. When viewed through that lens, life becomes less about what we can accumulate and more about what we can give.

For many years, I thought significance was found in the big moments. The milestones. The achievements. The events that others could easily see and celebrate. But the longer I walk through life, the more I realize that some of the most meaningful contributions are often quiet and unnoticed. A word of encouragement given at the right time. A prayer whispered for someone who is struggling. A listening ear. A reminder that another person is not walking through their pain alone. Those things may not seem extraordinary, but they have the power to change lives.

Every one of us has been influenced by people who chose to speak hope when we needed it most. Perhaps it was a parent, a grandparent, a pastor, a friend, or even a stranger. Someone who offered encouragement when we were discouraged. Someone who reminded us of truth when fear clouded our judgment. Someone who believed in us when we struggled to believe in ourselves. Their words became anchors during difficult seasons, and their influence continues long after the conversation ended.

I often think about how much of our journey is shaped by the voices we listen to. Some voices tear down. Some voices discourage. Some voices create confusion. But every now and then, God places people in our path whose words carry life. Their encouragement helps us keep moving forward. Their wisdom helps us navigate uncertainty. Their faith reminds us that God is still working even when we cannot see it. The beautiful thing is that God invites each of us to become that kind of voice for someone else.

There is always someone who needs encouragement. Someone who feels forgotten. Someone who is carrying burdens they have not shared with anyone. Someone who is questioning whether they have the strength to keep going. We may not have all the answers they are searching for, but we can still offer hope. We can remind them that they are seen. We can remind them that they are loved. We can remind them that God has not abandoned them.

In many ways, that is what ministry truly is. It is not limited to pulpits, platforms, or public recognition. Ministry often happens in ordinary conversations, kitchen tables, hospital rooms, waiting rooms, text messages, and quiet moments between friends. It happens whenever one person carries a portion of another person's burden and points them toward hope.

I think that is why music, stories, and testimonies matter so much. They remind us that we are not alone. A song can put words to emotions we have struggled to express. A story can help us see our own circumstances differently. A testimony can remind us that God's faithfulness did not end with someone else's miracle but continues today.

Throughout my life, there have been songs that carried me through difficult seasons. Songs that reminded me of God's promises when fear threatened to overwhelm me. Songs that gave me words to pray when I could not find my own. Songs that lifted my eyes from my circumstances and pointed them back toward the One who holds everything together. But eventually I realized something important. Those songs were never meant to stop with me.

The encouragement we receive is often meant to be shared. The comfort we receive is often meant to be given away. The hope we receive is often meant to be passed along. Scripture tells us that God comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others with the comfort we have received from Him. What a beautiful picture. The blessings God pours into our lives are not merely for our benefit. They become resources we can use to help others who are walking through similar struggles.

Some of the people who have encouraged me most were not people with perfect lives. In fact, many of them had endured tremendous hardship. They knew pain. They understood loss. They had walked through valleys of their own. Yet because of what God had done in their lives, they were able to offer hope that felt genuine and believable. There is a unique credibility that comes from someone who has suffered and still found God faithful. Their words carry weight because they have been tested. They are not speaking from theory. They are speaking from experience.

Perhaps that is why some of the most powerful ministries emerge from places of brokenness. God has a way of redeeming pain and transforming it into purpose. The very wounds that once seemed meaningless become opportunities to help others heal. The struggles that once felt unbearable become testimonies of God's sustaining grace.

Life has a way of presenting questions that no human being can fully answer. Questions about suffering. Questions about loss. Questions about why certain things happen. Questions about why some prayers seem delayed. There have been times when I searched for explanations and found very few. Times when the answers I wanted simply were not available. Yet in those moments, I discovered something greater than answers. I discovered the presence of God.

While He did not always explain everything, He remained with me through everything. While He did not always reveal His plans, He continually revealed His faithfulness. While I could not always understand what He was doing, I could trust who He is. That discovery changed me. It taught me that faith is not about having every question answered. It is about knowing the One who remains faithful even when questions remain. It is about trusting God's character when circumstances make no sense. It is about believing that His goodness is not diminished by our inability to understand His ways.

As long as God continues giving me breath, I hope there will always be one more song to sing, one more story to tell, one more word of encouragement to offer, and one more opportunity to point someone toward hope. Not because I have all the answers, but because I know the One who does.

There are people all around us who are searching for hope. Some are carrying silent burdens. Some are fighting private battles. Some are barely making it through the day. They may never tell us how much they need encouragement, but God often places us in their lives for a reason. A kind word may seem small. A prayer may seem simple. A testimony may seem ordinary. But God often uses ordinary things to accomplish extraordinary purposes.

The older I get, the less concerned I am about being remembered and the more concerned I am about being useful. If my words can help someone hold on a little longer, trust God a little deeper, or find hope in a difficult season, then they have served their purpose. Because at the end of the day, life is not about drawing attention to ourselves. It is about pointing people to Jesus. He is the source of every song worth singing, every truth worth sharing, and every hope worth holding onto. And as long as there is breath in our lungs and people who need encouragement, there will always be one more song to sing about His faithfulness, one more story to tell about His grace, and one more opportunity to remind someone that they are never walking alone.
