Get Off Me, Devil: You Can’t Hold Me Down

There are days when the weight of this world tries to press so heavy on your soul that you can barely lift your head. Trouble creeps in silently, like a thief in the night—uninvited, unannounced, and relentless. Fear, doubt, shame, anxiety—they all come knocking. But lately, I’ve been learning to stand my ground. I’ve started saying something bold, out loud if I have to: “Get off me, devil. You can’t hold me down.”

Because here’s the truth: I’ve got the Good News. I’m not fighting this battle alone. And no matter how loud the darkness roars, it has already lost. My God is undefeated. His love has already won my freedom. That’s not poetic metaphor. That’s fact. The grave has been destroyed. The price has been paid. The chains are broken.

The devil will try to steal your joy. He’ll whisper lies in your ear—telling you you’re not enough, that you’ll never make it, that hope is out of reach. He’s good at twisting your weakest moments into weapons. But what he forgets is this: when you know where your strength comes from, when you remember who stands beside you, you become unshakable.

There is nothing more dangerous to darkness than someone who walks in the light. Someone who knows that joy is not just a fleeting feeling, but a fierce, unbreakable assurance in the heart. Someone who declares, even in the storm, “I will not be moved. My God is greater.”

I’m not saying life is easy. I’m not saying battles disappear. I’m saying I know how this story ends—and spoiler alert, the devil doesn’t win. So when he shows up with all his chaos and confusion, I don’t cower anymore. I speak truth. I remind him (and myself) of what’s already been done: Love already wrote the victory story.

You can try, devil. You can knock and scheme and push. But I’m rooted in something eternal. I’m covered by grace. You can’t steal what’s been redeemed. You can’t hold down someone who’s already been set free.

So to anyone who’s feeling attacked, overwhelmed, or afraid—rise up. Speak life over your valley. Declare victory over your battlefield. Look that liar in the face and say it with holy confidence:

“You can’t hold me down.”
